Hallaton Art Studio
Hallaton, Leicestershire
This project involved the sensitive conversion of a former stable and apple store into a bright, airy studio space for a local artist. The brief was to retain the building’s original exterior character while transforming the dark, cluttered storeroom into a warm and inviting creative environment.
Key elements of the work included:
• Installation of a suspended timber floor to provide a solid, comfortable foundation.
• Construction of a timber frame with modern insulation to enhance thermal efficiency without compromising the building’s heritage.
• Dry lining and plastering to create clean, smooth interior surfaces while preserving original features.
• Refurbishment of the slate roof, incorporating a discreet roof window to introduce natural light into the space.
• Fabrication and fitting of purpose-made doors and windows in keeping with the building’s style.
• Laying of engineered oak flooring, offering a durable and attractive finish suitable for a working studio.
• Installation of specialist lighting designed to meet the functional needs of an artist’s workspace while contributing to the overall warmth and ambiance.
Throughout the project, great care was taken to preserve the building’s historic character while delivering a modern, functional, and inspiring space.
