This project involved the sensitive conversion of a former stable and apple store into a bright, airy studio space for a local artist. The brief was to retain the building's original exterior character while transforming a dark, cluttered storeroom into a warm, inviting creative environment.
Key elements of the work included a suspended timber floor for a solid foundation, a timber frame with modern insulation to improve thermal efficiency without compromising the building's heritage, and dry lining and plastering to create clean interior surfaces while preserving original features. The slate roof was refurbished with a discreet roof window to introduce natural light, and purpose-made doors and windows were fabricated to match the building's style.
Engineered oak flooring was laid throughout for a durable, attractive finish, with specialist lighting installed to meet the functional needs of an artist's workspace while contributing to its warmth and ambiance.
Throughout the project, great care was taken to preserve the building's historic character while delivering a modern, functional, and inspiring space.
